Kayden had recently acquired a job at the St. Michael's Hospital. He was to be both a surgeon and a physician, which he was fine with. Kayden would have to work the night shift which, unfortunately, was one of the roughest times at a hospital. He had learned that lesson well when he was a resident. But now things were different. He believed he would have more control over the outcome of his patients lives.
After Kayden payed a visit to his new office, he was immediately rushed to the OR. A little girl named Casey was in a car crash, and it was Kayden's job to make sure she would pull out of this alive. A large piece of glass had punctured her lung and he would have to quickly repair it or else she would bleed to death. Opening up the body was the easy part, but sewing the little but fatal cuts was quite the challenge. Using the skills he had learned in med school, he was safely able to repair the lung.
One of the best things about being a doctor was giving people good news. Outside the OR, Casey's mother was waiting. As Kayden approached her, a smile grew across his face. That was enough to tell the woman that everything was going to be alright. After explaining the surgery, someone tapped his shoulder.

Brook had been called out of her bed in the early hours of the morning for an emergency case. Today was supposed to have been her day off, but she just could stay away from her job. It was her life's mission to take care of people in the time of need and so when her co-worker Lisa had called, Brook immediately put aside her day off to help. She had just gotten done with a heart attack patient and was now on her break. The halls were almost empty except for the few doctors and other staff.
Turning the cornor she made her way to the break room, suddenly the aroma of coffee stole away her sense's. Brook's legs were telling her to sit while her head was begging for some caffine. She choose to get the coffee then go and lie down on the hard couch for a while. Her maroon scrubs were wrinkled and had a few stains of blood splattered over them. This was how she normally dressed, her long hair was tied up in a tight ponytail.
Brook looked at the clock on the far wall, her coffee had since gone cold and now it was time for the second round for the day. One of the new doctors had been rushed aside to deal with a crash victim. She had just gotten done with her heart attack patient, so she was on break and couldn't help the man. However what she had heard about the man he was very good at what he did and that was nice to know. Alot of new doctors seemed fresh out of med school.
Climbing off the couch she walked down the hallways and made down to the waiting room. Low and behold the man was there speaking with a woman, probably the patients mother. Once he was done she casually walked up to the man and tapped his shoulder. Brooke wasn't a very tall person, but she wasn't short either. This man just made her seem short, in her head she chuckled at the thought.
"Hello sir, I'm glad I've finally had a chance to meet up with you. It's nice to see some new surgeons in this place."
She gave the man a warm smile.

Based on first impressions, Kayden immediately believed the woman that stood before him cared about her patients as much as he did. "Nice to meet you. My name is Kayden Griffith. And as you already know, I am the new surgeon and physician everyone is talking about." He said while holding his hand out for a shake. Kayden was proud of his status as both a physician and a surgeon. It took him years to accomplish that goal but he believed that it was well worth it.
"If I may ask, could you please show me the break room. I've only been here for a couple of hours and I'm already lost." Kayden then chuckled aloud. His eyes were weary and heavy and only large cup of coffee would relieve his stress and tension. "You are a nurse right?" He asked as his eyes began to scan her maroon scrubs. He knew well that maroon signified a nurse. Most likely an RN.
Kayden's hands were in pain from the surgery. He hadn't operated in week so he had to stretch them out once again. The feeling reminded him of his childhood. When he would ride his bike to the local pond and catch some frogs. He would dissect them in an attempt to perform surgeries such as liver and heart transplants. Of course, most if not all were not successful seeing as none of the frogs were matches. But those days meant so much to Kayden.

Brook quickly took the surgeon's hand and shook it lightly, not wanting to put to much pressure on what she knew had to be a stressed hand. She had seen some good doctors loose their jobs, because they would not rest their hands and the end result would be either arthritis or some other disability. She nodded to the doctors question of the 'Break Room'. The break room was like the second most important room in the hospital to the staff.
"Its this way Dr. Griffith; by they way my name is Brooklyn Hart, but everyone calls me Brook."
They continued down the hallway, it wasn't very far from the operating rooms. The walk was nice and not rushed, the halls seemed unnaturally slow. However she knew it wouldn't be that way for long and was greatfull for the easiness. On the right was a wood door with a glass window that had the word 'Staff Lounge'. Brook opened the door and stepped inside.
"So this is the break room" she waved her hand in the air. The room was a good size and held a kitchen like space off to the far left. The rest of the room held a table, some couchs and a few magazines.
"And I believe that is a fresh pot of coffee over there." She pointed off to the kitchen space."Not sure if it's any good, depends on who makes it. All the same its caffinee."

Kayden's emotions began to jump with excitement as he eyed the pot of coffee. It was as if he had discovered a buried treasure or had finally found the secret location of the holy grail. "Thank you Brook. You have no idea how much my body needs a cup of coffee right now." Kayden's voice sounded desperate in someway. He had a small addiction to caffeine and the sweet aroma that flowed from fresh coffee.
"Would you like a cup?" Kayden asked as he poured two creams into his coffee. He gently tiled the cub back, making sure the hot liquid would not burn his tongue. And to no surprise, Kayden did just that. The coffee rushed out of the cub like a great flood. His tongue was the first to catch the coffee as it made its way down his throat. "Shit!" He said aloud as began to deal with the burn that was now present on his tongue.
"Hey, I'm only human. And it is my first day on the job." Kayden said now laughing because of his own stupidity.

Brook smiled once again at the doctor, she knew the need of coffee too. She shook her head as he asked if she wanted a cup. Walking over to the table she sat down at one of the tables and leaned back.
"So how has your first day been so far? It looked like they got you right to business this morning."
Getting up she came to the frig and pulled out one of the many bottles of water. Taking the cap off she took a larg swig of the liquid then placed on the counter. Closing the door she heard the man give a shout, she looked over at him. Evidently he had taken a sip of his coffee too soon and was now paying for it. Garbbing her water she handed over to the man.
"Here take a drink of this and then wait a min for you coffee to cool." She giggled a little, because she had told him it was fresh, but she wouldn't say that to his face. That would only make him mad, instead she tried to help and then left him to deal with his now very warm tongue.
Leaning against the counter she staired out at the room. There was only one other person in the lounge besides the doctor and herself, but he was sleeping in the adjoing room. Another good thing that this hospital provided for it's staff. A room with bunks for those who needed a rest after long hours of duty. This place was like a second home to many of them.
"Also I forgot to mention the door over there on the far wall" She waved her hand in the general direction. "That room has several bunks in them so you can take some rest after hours of work. The bunks have little curtains that you can draw around you so people will know not to disturb you unless it's an emergency."
occ: its okay, i get museless some times too. lol

A soft bed began to sound good to Kayden. Sleeping was one of the best cures for stress, or so he had been told in med school. But sometimes Kayden found himself unable to sleep because of stress. He found that situation quite ironic. "Thanks Brook." He said while he slightly opened the door to examine the room. He noticed that not many occupied the beds. He found that fact comforting in some way. Like Kayden would use this room as his save haven.
At age sixteen, Kayden suffered a heart attack. I know, sounds weird right? Doctors told him there was a large scratch in one of his chambers. Unfortunately, he had to have a heart transplant. Luckily, the surgery was a success and Kayden has lived a normal life since then. But a small part of him had always felt guilty. He felt as if his donor was meant to die just so he could save Kayden. Of course, the thought is preposterous.
During that time of Kayden's life, he also had a religious awakening. His family were avid Christians but Kayden had never been one-hundred percent involved in the church. But once his heart problems began, God was one of the only people he could turn to. He prayed every night until a miracle came along. And now Kayden attends church every Sunday and values his Christian morales.
"Crap." Kayden said as he began to observe his watch. "I have a liver transplant to perform. The patient has hepatitis C which leads to liver failure." Kayden quickly discarded the remaining coffee. "It was very nice to meet you Brook. I'll see you around, okay? Kayden then smiled and rushed off to surgery.

Brook sat back down on one of the couch's and grabbed a magazine. Hearing Kayden shout at first jumped her then she understood. She waved a goodbye as he rushed out the door. After a few minute she got up and headed out the room.
She hadn't been paged in a while and was begining to wander if she was going to have the rest of the day off. Since this was supposed to be her day off.
